Getting Audited:    What is an audit?

When we talk about 'getting audited', it usually refers to when a government inspector visits your workplace to conduct an investigation or assessment on your workplace health and safety systems and practices.

If your workplace is found to be not complying with the legislation, the inspector may issue a range of actions from verbal warnings to on the spot fines of up to $1500 each.

Sometimes however, a WH&S consultant may refer to their service as an 'audit'. This is different to the audits conducted by the government inspectors. A consultant will conduct an assessment your workplace and provide recommendations, however implementing the recommendations are not compulsory and do not incur any fines.
