Safety Portal Tutorial:      Four Steps to Improving Your Workplace Health & Safety Systems

Step 1:    Correct Documentation

This site contains a WH&S Manual and the associated proformas for you to download, personalise and complete.

The manual and proformas should form the backbone of your WH&S, with the policies, checklists and registers used as regular tools for checking your safety standards.

To begin downloading the documents, click TEMPLATE DOCUMENTS on the left menu.

Step 2:    Communication & Consultation with Employees

After reading through the manual and proformas, set aside time to meet with your employees.

Discuss with them how to best implement and maintain the policies, checklists and registers. Clearly assign and notify staff on who is responsible for certain tasks and what you all have to be daily.

Step 3:    Implementation

The WH&S Manual and Proformas will be ineffective if not completed, implemented and maintained.

When you complete the assessment tools and registers for the first time, you may find that there are safety issues which need addressing immediately.

Take the time NOW to implement the proformas and spend the money needed to correct any issues.

The time and money spent NOW will save you in the long run.

Step 4:    Review

Regularly review the proformas to ensure that they are being completed as planned. It is also good to review when your workplace changes - more staff, new equipment, etc.

If you would like to receive updates on the legislation and changes you need to make to your documents, please complete the
"Stay Up To Date" form on the right hand side of the Safety Home Page
